In the left margin: Day Edmund Will In the Name of God Amen I Edmund Day of the parish of St. Lukes and county of Southampton being sick and weak of body but of sound and disposing mind and memory thanks be given to the Almighty God for the same do make and constitute this my Last Will and Testament in form and manner following. To wit: I lend the use of the dwelling House and all the land thereunto belonging on the house side of the Pond branch with the use of two Negroes named Jimboy and Sal to my wife during her life or day of marriage, but at her death or day of marriage, my desire is that the Negroes be sold at public sale and the moneys thence arising to be equally divided between my two Sons Abner and John, and the house and land to be return to my Son John & his heirs I give and bequeath to my Son Abner and his heirs lawfully begotten on tract or parcel Commonly known by the name of the old place with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging and the following Negroes viz Harry, Luce, and Will and at his gradndfathers decease the land whereon he now lives together with the Negroes Cloe and Tim and my will and desire is that when my Son Abner comes of age that should he grant, deed, sell, bestow or otherwise alienate any of the abovementioned premisses of negroes then his right of ownership shall cease as tho he were dead and be vested in the heir of him or the lawfully begotten by him. I give and bequeath to my Son John and his heirs all that Tract or parcel of land which I bought from Faircloth with the Ordinary to be by him possessed allowing his mother lifetime or widowhood as before mentioned when he comes of age likewise the following Negroes to wit Somon, Judy, Isabell, Amos, Nan, Winney, Jem and Peter to Him and his Heirs forever but in case of my Son John's decease, that his whole right devolve on my son Abner and his heirs, so that if either of my sons die before they come to age the survivor become heir to his deceased brother's land. I give & bequeath to my Sister Susanna the yesarly Sum of Six pounds ???? to be yearly and every year paid to her out of the Estate of my Son John during her natural life. And it is my will and pleasure that when all my Debts are paid that the remainder of my Estate not dispos'd of be sold at the descretion of my Executos and the money thence arising be equally divided between my Sons Abner and John. LastlyI do appoint my trusty friends Thomas Edmonds & Wm Whitehead to be the whole and sole Executors of this my last will and testament To whose further care I recommend the tuition of my Son Abner who is to be bound to a house carpenter & Joiner till he comes of age and my Son John who is to be kept at an Academy til the age of 21 Years Hereby revoking all former wills & testaments by me before made and constituting and con- firming this and no other to be my last will and testament.
